Local government CEO – role model
Media Release Thursday, 13 October 2005
Retiring Town of Cambridge CEO Graham Partridge will be missed as a role model and mentor to local government officers, says Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA).
Local government’s peak professional organisation said Mr Partridge, who announced his resignation today, had offered sound guidance for local government officers and councillors he had mentored over a long career.
“Graham has had a great career, with all the qualities of professionalism, leadership and sound skills that we need in local government,” said LGMA (WA) President Neil Hartley.
“Graham’s contribution to the industry has been continuous across a 43 year career.
“One of the most significant milestones in his career was as the first CEO for the newly formed Town of Cambridge. He was appointed in 1994 and set up the whole administration from scratch – a big achievement.
“It was a long way from where he started – as a junior clerk with the City of Perth in 1962. At that time, he assisted the Lord Mayor and Town Clerk with the preparation for the Commonwealth Games. He went on to become the Shire Clerk at the Shire of Peppermint Grove in 1978.
“Graham has contributed more broadly to the local government industry through his membership of the LGMA. He was a Board member with the WA Divisional Council for 15 years, including two years each as State President and National President. He encouraged involvement with the LGMA and founded the metropolitan branch.
“His commitment to professional development and fostering young talent were recognised in 1991 when the LGMA awarded him its Certificate of Merit – the highest national accolade awarded by the LGMA for outstanding service to local government and the community.
“We hope that Graham’s skills and experience will not be lost to local government. We encourage him to continue his involvement as a mentor or consultant.”
