"ROCIT 2013" Reform – Opportunities & Challenges for IT in Local Government

Emerging technology and changes in IT are dramatically changing the way people do business. How do local governments prepare for the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities?

IT affects the whole organisation and responding to the challenges requires collaboration across all teams, starting with the CEO.

The first LGMA Local Government Information Technology conference will be held 13-14 June 2013 at the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle and will address the top IT issues.

The LGMA Ambrose Golf Championship is proving to be a very successful annual event.  The 2013 Championship was held last Monday 25th February and was again enjoyed by all who attended.

The LGMA Finance Awards is a system of honors introduced in 2009 to formally recognise the significant contributions made by Local Government Finance Professionals to the Western Australian community and the Local Government finance sector.

There are two levels - High Achievers Award and the Rising Star Finance Professional Award.

Nominees can nominate themselves, however it should be endorsed by their Director or Manager.

After a successful run in 2012, the LGMA Induction program will be back in 2013! This one-day workshop is open to all officers in Local Government from those who are new to the game to those who are not so new but may not have had much exposure to Council governance in their role. Participants will gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Local Government as well as the relationship between staff and Elected Members.

We are pleased to advise the LGMA Finance Professionals Conference “Does Size Really Matter?" will be held from Thursday 28^th February – Friday 1^st March 2013 at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle. This event is the leading professional development activity for officers involved with financial issues on the Local Government calendar in WA each year.

Starting on the 17th of September and continuing through to October, get in fast. The Department of Local Government is working with the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government, UTS Centre for Local Government and Local Government Managers Australia to deliver a number of two-day Workforce Planning training workshops across the State in September and October 2012. These workshops will specifically focus on the development and implementation of Workforce Planning by local governments.

Make a note in your diary NOW. This conference will be held at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle from the 20^th to the 21^st of September. The conference theme is Emerging Community Development Frontiers. There will be three streams: Creativity, Economics & Results.
